Women's Gymnastics

Gymnastic is a sport which involves routines of tests involving a display of skills. The criteria of marking and judgment are being the tough to toughest in competitions. It is not only associated with men's performances but also provide the women to participate and show their skills in its variety of forms. In fact, the women have more opportunity to take part in all three varieties of gymnastics .Women are considered as weaker sex but they have often proved their mettle in gymnastics with work hard and determination.

Women gymnastics is also an interesting one. Gymnastics need timely actions and a balanced body through out these actions. Women Gymnastic comprise of these types of gymnastic Artistic, Trampoline and Rhythmic. In artistic gymnastic, women are allowed to display their potential using four pieces of equipment: namely gymnastic Vault, Uneven Bars, gymnastic Balance Beam and gymnastic Floor Exercises.

Gymnastic Vault: It has the same routine as in the men's event. The Horse is lowered to a height of 1.2 m and is approached from the sides.

Gymnastic Uneven bars: In this stage the routine is performed on a set of two flexible bars a maximum of 4.7 ft apart from each other at different heights. The upper bar is between 7.7 and 7.9 ft from the floor; the lower bar is placed parallel to it and 4.6 and 5.2 ft above the floor. The routine involves swinging, releasing, and changing of direction over, under, and between the bars with a mount and dismount.

Gymnastics balancing beam: This routine is performed on a single beam 16.4 ft long, and 3.9 ft off the ground. It also involves continuous tumbling moves, turns, jumps, and leaps. A mount and dismount are also required.

Gymnastic Floor exercise: It is a routine performed without apparatus on a floor mat the same size as the men's, about 40 ft square. The routine is performed to music and similar to men's in procedure. The second form in which women can participate is Rhythmic Gymnastics. It involves the performance with a combination of dance and rhythm. The female gymnasts use accessories like ribbons, a rope, a hoop, a ball, etc for their support in performance. This creates a colorful look in the performance and is a treat for every spectator. The third variety of gymnastic is Trampoline Gymnastic. In trampoline form of gymnastics, the women gymnasts perform ten different acts, bouncing and rebounding on a Gymnastic trampoline. In short, all types of gymnastics are full of entertainment and fun. It is impossible to point out which form of gymnastic is an interesting and at the same time thrilling. The women gymnasts won laurels for their homeland in Olympic Gymnastics. Some of the famous women gymnasts were Nadia Comenci of Romania, who won ten out ten in Olympics 1976 in Olympics at Montreal. Another female gymnast E.Szabo of the same country won in Pommel horse vault and floor exercise in Olympic 1984. In the same competition, L.Funa of China won medal in Rhythmic all-round gymnastic performance.

The other famous female gymnasts who won medals from gold, silver to bronze, for their countries in different Olympic competitions were as follows:

The Olympian female gymnasts of Romania were Oana Ban, Alexandra Eremia, Catalina Ponor, Monica Rosu, Nicoleta Daniela Sofronie Silvia Stroescu etc.

The US female gymnasts at Olympics were Mohini Bhardwaj, Annia Hatch, Erin Humphrey, Courtney Kupets, Courtney McCoo, Carly Patterson etc.

The Russians were also not behind .They too showed their exuberance at Olympics. Some of their female gymnasts were Liudmila Ezhova, Svetlana Khorkina, Maria Krioutchkova, Anna Pavlova, Elena Zamolodchikova, and Natalia Ziganchina
Etc.

The NCAA Gymnastics, which is considered as one of the premiere competition in gymnastics, issues Rankings for women gymnastic competitions every year.
